When it comes to this tent scandal, Liberals blame everyone but themselves
THOMPSON - Today, NDP MP Niki Ashton (Churchill--Keewatinook Aski) grilled Minister Miller at committee over an ongoing tent scandal where the government bought unrequested tents from Dynamic Air Shelters, a company that was headed by a former provincial Liberal Cabinet Minister and directed them to Mathias Colomb Cree Nation.
“Mathias Colomb Cree Nation waited a year before the government spent even half of what they spent on these unwanted tents to upgrade their youth centre,” said Ashton. “It begs the question - how many scandals will we have to uncover before this government treats First Nations with dignity and respect?”
In the past month, the Liberals have done everything but take responsibility for this scandal. They blamed nurses for the mix up. They used national security as an attempt to quash the issue and today they blamed the company for announcing the contract too soon.
“The government is trying to paint a picture that everything is fine,” said Ashton. “The Government must stop covering up what happened and answer the tough questions being asked of them.”
