Statement: The Capital Gains Tax Increase On The Richest 0.1% Must Go Forward, Despite Liberal Incompetence.
The capital gains tax increase on the richest 0.1% is critical to funding the public services that Canadians rely on every day.
Yet, by choosing to prorogue Parliament and prioritize a leadership race, the Liberals put the implementation of this tax increase into question. In doing so, the Liberals placed their party’s interests above the well-being of working Canadians.
We know that if Pierre Poilievre’s Conservatives were given the chance, they would give tax breaks for their billionaire buddies. We know this because during his time as a minister in the Harper Conservative government, Poilievre did just that and supported a $60 billion tax break for corporations at the expense of the working class.
We in the NDP, firmly believe that the capital gains tax increase on the top 0.1 per cent must go forward so the ultra-rich pay their fair share. Canadians are counting on us.
