QP: Ashton Demands Action for York Factory
MP Ashton called on the Minister to step up for York Factory and First Nations to ensure people have a safe place to stay in and outside the community during this time of self-isolation and lockdown.
COVID-19 can hit anyone, anywhere. But for First Nations, it can be worse. The housing crisis on First Nations means people have nowhere to self-isolate. And yet people have to leave on any given day for medical care and other essential services. For First Nations in lockdown like York Factory, people are stranded outside of the community for their own health and that of their community.
Min. Miller says he's cautiously optimistic, but how can we be in the midst of the housing crisis in the middle of the pandemic? Action is needed now.
