MP Ashton statement on Liberals & Bloc Mps protecting Nazis in Deschenes Report

OTTAWA – NDP Heritage Critic MP Niki Ashton (Churchill—Keewatinook Aski) released the following statement on Liberal and Bloc MPs once again blocking a motion to release the Deschênes report that named Nazis and their collaborators that were welcomed into Canada:

Those who were involved in the hunting down and prosecuting of Nazis have consistently condemned Canada for its complacency around bringing the perpetrators of the Holocaust to justice. The fact that Liberal & Bloc Quebecois MPs would do this immediately after a witness explicitly called on Canada to release the names in this list is shameful.

Even worse, they relied on Parliamentary tricks to keep their opinions on the topic a secret.

The NDP has made it clear that transparency is needed and this government needs to release the names of alleged Nazis that it welcomed into the country at the same time that it was refusing the entry of Jewish refugees who were left to be murdered.
