LETTER: Why aren't First Nations getting the vaccine in a timely fashion?
Dear Minister Miller,
I am writing to you relaying fear and concern from First Nations people across our riding who have reached out to our office regarding a lack of vaccines being delivered to their communities. From Pauingassi to Cross Lake to Opaskwayak Cree Nation to Berens River, Elders and members of the community have reached out to my office regarding an inability to stay safe due to a lack of vaccines.
Many people across our region were hopeful when numerous Elders began being vaccinated across our region in January. However many have not received the second dose. Many more Elders have yet to receive even the first dose.
Minister Miller, lives are on the line. I would like to know why First Nations, some of the most vulnerable communities in the country, are not getting the vaccine in a timely fashion?
In order for First Nations to have confidence in your government, these delays must be explained and fixed. When will First Nations Elders and their communities receive the recommended amount of vaccines?
