LETTER: THE GOVERNMENT MUST STEP UP FOR PUKATAWAGAN
Dear Minister Miller,
Due to recent floods on the Churchill River, the community of Pukatawagan has found itself cut off from the rest of the province, as the Keewatin Railway Company has had to stop its service to the First Nation. This has had severe consequences on residents as the price of groceries has since skyrocketed, and community members no longer can take the train to go shop for necessities and goods.
I appeal to you, Minister, to ensure that all necessary supports are in place during this time including extending the Nutrition North program to Pukatawagan as soon as possible. The concurrent effects of the COVID-19 pandemic and the floods means that the community is in desperate need for help at this time.
