Keynote: Nora Loreto

Our keynote address comes from Nora Loreto, member of the Canadian Freelance Union, writer and precarious worker. Nora is speaking about the current crisis of precarious work and what happened to get us to where we are today. 

  

Panel: The Kids Aren't Alright

Art as Resistance

We were thrilled to have artist Heryka Miranda and Storyteller Juan Luis Mendoza de la Cruz perform "The Sunflower Man". They tell the story of a temporary foreign worker working on a Canadian farm in St. Catherines, ON.

This panel is focusing on how work is exploited, outsourced and undervalued. The panel is focused on how grassroots social movements, advocacy, unionization, legislative approaches and political leadership have challenged the status quo. Our panelists include Hashim Yussuf (Black Lives Matter Toronto), Stephanie Nakitsas (Urban Worker Project, Reakash Walters (Alberta Union of Public of Public Employees), Eric Nordal (Retail Action Network), Michael Connolly (NDP MLA Calgary-Hawkwood), and Alyse Stuart (Common Front NL).
