"Where are the net benefits from foreign takeovers?"

As Canadians have watched the Federal government again approve foreign takeovers in the resource sector the issue of net benefits is again front and centre.

When a foreign company takes over a Canadian company there is supposed to be a net benefit for Canadians.

The Federal government rejected the BHP takeover of potash in Saskatchewan because of the lack of benefits but earlier approved the Vale takeover of Inco that has had a negative net benefit for Thompson.

Dear Mr. Chopra

On November 11 Canadians from coast to coast to coast honoured our veterans and those that are serving our country today.

We also commemorated our Aboriginal veterans on National Aboriginal Veterans Day.

Throughout history more than 2.3 million  people have served this country.  More than 100,000 have  made the ultimate sacrifice and were killed in active service in combat and in peacekeeping missions throughout the world.

We owe so much of the peace and freedom that we enjoy to our veterans.

Here we go again.

The Federal government has introduced a
400 plus page budget bill that contains numerous negative provisions that go
far beyond the budget itself.

In the spring the Harper government used
an omnibus budget bill to attack Old Age Security, Employment Insurance and
health care transfers while also turning back the clock on environmental
protection.

"Food safety must be a priority"

Canadians expect food safety to be a top priority.

In recent weeks Canadians have seen that we can't take food safety for granted. Serious questions have been raised

about the government's handling of the outbreak of E. coli in Canadian beef from XL Foods.

Authorities in the U.S. stopped imports from the XL Food plants on Sept. 13.  In Canada the plant was not shut down until Sept. 27.
