Mme Niki Ashton (Churchill, NPD): Monsieur le Président, alors que le taux de suicide au Canada a diminué au cours des dernières années, celui des Autochtones demeure tragiquement élevé. La statistique la plus alarmante est le taux de suicide parmi les jeunes Autochtones qui est de cinq à six fois plus haut que pour les autres Canadiens. Ils sont sans récréation, sans centre de jeunesse, sans programme parascolaire et sans espoir.
