MP Report: Government Should Respect Vote
September 14th, 2011 - 2:54pm
Farmers have spoken. They want the Conservative Government to back off and not dismantle the Wheat Board.
More than 60 per cent of farmers voted to keep the CWB single desk in a recent plebiscite. It is clear that the CWB has support across the prairies.
Farmers stressed the important role the CWB plays in marketing our grain and protecting the interests of farmers. They pointed out that the Board itself is made up of members elected by producers.
The continuation of the CWB is also critical to the Port of Churchill, to the North and to Winnipeg where it has its head office.
The results of the vote are clear. It is time the Federal Conservatives put their ideology aside . It is time they listened to farmers and Western Canadians.
It is time to save the Wheat Board.
