MP ASHTON CALLS OUT TRUDEAU ON HIS INACTION ON LAND TREATY ENTITLEMENT

OTTAWA - First Nation leaders from Manitoba came to Ottawa this week to call on the government to work with them to advance Treaty Land Entitlement. They tried meeting with the Minister of Indigenous Services for two months, but their calls have been ignored. When First Nation Leaders arrived in Ottawa, the Minister couldn’t even walk two blocks to speak with them.

“The Prime Minister is all about the talk but there’s no action when it comes to critical issues like Treaty Land Entitlement. He isn’t even willing to listen to the issues First Nations are facing,” said NDP Deputy Critic for Reconciliation Niki Ashton.

Ashton raised the concern in Question Period today, but she did not get an answer from the Prime Minister.

“His non-answer to my question is symbolic of his refusal to work with First Nations. On reconciliation, he doesn’t get it. On First Nation housing, he won’t do the work,” added Ashton.
