MP ASHTON CALLS OUT PM TRUDEAU FOR FIRST NATION HOUSING INACTION

MP Niki Ashton (Churchill—Keewatinook Aski) called out PM Trudeau for the government’s failures on the housing crisis facing First Nation communities.

MP Ashton told the Prime Minister the story of one of her constituents from Red Sucker Lake, Rhonda. Rhonda told her how happy she was that it was summertime, because that meant she could stay in her house which had no plumbing or even a roof. “Why is the government failing to provide adequate housing for First Nations,” she asked.

Reflecting on the Prime Minister’s answer, MP Ashton said, “The Prime Minister’s response and, more importantly, the lack of concrete action, shows how committed this government really is to Reconciliation. The hard truth is they don’t really care about First Nation communities.”
