MP ASHTON ASKS HOW THE GOVERNMENT SO BOTCHED THE LITTLE GRAND RAPIDS EVACUATION

Today, during Question Period, MP Ashton asked the Prime Minister how the government so botched the evacuation in Little Grand Rapids. Why is there never enough money for our North when they can find $4.5 billion dollars for American shareholders?

He called the question irresponsible and a false dichotomy.

Justin, you say that you want to secure the chance for every Canadian to have a better life, but clearly, those who need it the most have been consistently overlooked. This isn't a false dichotomy, this is reality. When it comes down to it, you only believe what's most convenient and ignore the hard truths.

Too many First Nations communities don't have access to fresh water, and Little Grand Rapids doesn't even have access to an all-weather road. What's truly irresponsible is spending $4.5 billion on funding a 65-year-old pipeline for the benefit of American shareholders rather than measurably improving the lives of the first peoples of Canada.

Frankly speaking, this is not reconciliation.
