MESSAGE TO HARPER: TIME TO LISTEN TO INDIGENOUS YOUTH
March 25th, 2013 - 7:23pm
Ottawa - Today hundreds of young Indigenous walkers came to Parliament Hill with a message of reconciliation, building on the Idle No More movement.
In support of the walkers, Niki Ashton MP (Churchill) rose in question period to ask why the Prime Minister did not welcome the walkers.
"Instead of meeting with the Indigenous youth, the Prime Minister chose to greet two pandas fedexed from China" asked Ashton.
Ashton raised the paternalistic workfare program imposed on First Nations youth and called on the Harper Government to change course.
"What will it take? How many more kilometers need to be walked for this Conservative Government to listen?" said Ashton.
