FEDERAL GOVERNMENT MUST STEP UP ON FLOOD MITIGATION ON FIRST NATIONS

Ottawa - The 2013 flood forecast reveals another year of flooding with an expected disproportionate impact on First Nations.

During question period Niki Ashton MP (Churchill) called on the Federal Government to act. Ashton pointed to the Federal Government's failure to work with First Nations such as Fisher River and Peguis in dealing with the 2009 and 2011 floods.

"Will the government provide immediate support to the First Nations to fight the flood? And when will they commit to long term flood mitigation?" asked Ashton.
