Concerns on First Nations Education Act Must Be Heard

I am very concerned that the Minister didn’t use this opportunity to bring First Nations into the drafting of this legislation.

Instead, Bill C-33 still keeps much of the control of education in the hands of the Minister – which is the opposite of what the Conservative’s own Nation Panel on Education called for.

We must hear the concerns and opposition from First Nations, educators and youth.  Therefore, this legislation should go to the Standing Committee on Aboriginal Affairs and Northern Development before second reading debate.
