CANADA POST THREAT TO REDUCE HOURS IN LYNN LAKE AND LEAF RAPIDS UNACCEPTABLE

Thompson - Canada Post sent letters at the end of July to Lynn Lake and Leaf Rapids outlining its interest in reducing the hours of operation in both communities.

Niki Ashton MP (Churchill) expressed her opposition to the plan to cut such critical services in a letter to Roy Karlson, Local Area Manager for Canada Post.

"As MP for Churchill, I join local government officials and residents in opposing your plan to reduce office hours."

Lynn Lake and Leaf Rapids are remote communities in northern Manitoba whose residents rely on the services provided by Canada Post. Reductions in terms of personnel have already made.

Ashton outlined that the reduction of services in Lynn Lake and Leaf Rapids contravenes the spirit of the moratorium on the closure of rural post offices.

"Northern and rural Canadians deserve better from Canada Post." Said Ashton while urging Canada Post to reconsider its approach and refrain from cutting services.
