Ashton Calls on Conservative Government to Stop Silencing Aboriginal Organizations

Ottawa - Today in question period, MP Niki Ashton (Churchill) called on the Government to re-instate funding to Aboriginal organizations that speak out on behalf of Aboriginal people.

"Let's call this for what it is, this Conservative Government's plan to silence those who speak out," said Ashton. "When will this Government recognize that Aboriginal Canadians will not be silenced?"

Ashton referred to the 80% cut to the Assembly of Manitoba Chiefs, an organization that has called for action on Missing and Murdered Aboriginal women.  "When will this Government reinstate funding to the Assembly of Manitoba Chiefs, Manitoba Keewatinowi Okimakanak, Manitoba Métis Federation and other Aboriginal organizations?"
