ASHTON CALLING ON CONSERVATIVE GOVERNMENT TO ACT

Calling for an end to unacceptable living conditions

OTTAWA – On the eve of a visit to Northern Manitoba from the United Nations Special Rapporteur on the Right to Food, MP Niki Ashton (Churchill) is bringing attention to the unacceptable living conditions on First Nations in Manitoba.

“This week we're celebrating the 100th Anniversary of Northern Manitoba”, said Ashton. “Despite the progress of the last 100 years, there are still communities without all-weather roads that live in 3rd World conditions.”

Ashton stood up in the House of Commons today and asked the Minister of Aboriginal Affairs and Northern Development why his Government is turning its back on Manitoba First Nations.

Ashton is calling on the Conservative Government to partner with the province and First Nations to put an end to the unacceptable living conditions Aboriginal people face.
